Water-repellent treatment does not rebuild deteriorated masonry or repair a damaged crown, cover, or flashing.

The treatment must suit the masonry and its condition. Discuss preparation, application requirements, and maintenance.

Start With the Source of Moisture

Chimney water entry can involve masonry, the crown, cap, chase cover, flashing, or more than one component. Explain when the moisture appears and where you notice it. The source should guide the repair or treatment.

A suitable water-repellent treatment can help limit moisture absorption by masonry. It does not close significant cracks, rebuild deteriorating joints, or replace other damaged components.

Assess Surface Condition and Preparation

Masonry condition, previous coatings, and product suitability affect the proposed work. Ask which surfaces would be treated, what preparation is needed, and whether repairs should be completed first.

Roof or flashing concerns may require a roofing professional. Confirm the chimney-service scope and estimate directly with Prime Choice before scheduling.

Water-Sealing Questions

Will treatment stop every leak?

No. The source may be a crown, cap, cover, flashing, or other damaged component. Assess the cause first.

Does it repair cracks or missing mortar?

No. Damaged masonry may need repair before a surface treatment is considered.

Can any household sealer be used?

The product must suit chimney masonry and its moisture conditions. Discuss suitability rather than choosing a coating only by its name.

Is the protection permanent?

Product requirements, surface condition, exposure, and maintenance affect performance. Ask about the specific treatment and any written warranty terms.
