What Smoke Chamber Parging Addresses

In a masonry fireplace, the smoke chamber is the transition area above the firebox and below the flue. Parging applies an appropriate refractory coating to suitable surfaces in this area. It is different from sweeping deposits out of a chimney or repairing the firebox.

The condition, shape, access, and construction of the chamber help determine whether parging is appropriate. Deposits, damaged material, or other problems may require preparation or separate work.

Discuss the Findings and Scope

Ask which condition the proposed parging addresses, how the chamber can be accessed, and what preparation is included. Parging is not a blanket solution for every smoke or draft problem, and it does not repair unrelated damage elsewhere in the chimney.

Call Prime Choice at 817-694-1905 with your fireplace type, maintenance history, and any smoke-entry or damage concerns. The scope and estimate depend on the assessment.

Smoke Chamber Parging Questions

Is parging the same as sweeping?

No. Sweeping removes deposits and debris; parging treats appropriate masonry surfaces with a suitable coating.

Does every fireplace have this type of smoke chamber?

No. Fireplace systems vary. Factory-built units and other appliances must be evaluated according to their construction and manufacturer requirements.

Will parging stop every smoke problem?

No. Draft and smoke entry can have several causes. The proposed repair should follow an assessment of the actual concern.

What affects the estimate?

Access, preparation, chamber size, condition, and the work proposed affect the estimate. Confirm those details and appointment availability before scheduling.
